Sempra Renewables Expands Midwest Wind Energy Portfolio

Sempra Renewables  added Michigan to an expanding list of states where it owns an interest in wind energy projects with the acquisition of the 100-megawatt (MW) Apple Blossom wind project  in Huron County. The wind farm was purchased from Geronimo Energy LLC, a utility-scale wind and solar energy developer. Slated for completion in late 2017, the project is expected to generate enough clean, renewable power for about 38,000 homes.

Sempra Renewables also recently celebrated the continuing development of its 78-MW Black Oak Getty wind farm  in Stearns County, Minn., with a community blade-signing event. Company representatives, local landowners, civic leaders and project partners celebrated the commencement of the project’s turbine assembly by signing a full-scale, 177-foot-long wind turbine blade. The project will be completed by year-end and is contracted to provide clean energy to the region for the next 20 years.

“It was an honor to be joined by the local community to celebrate the significant progress that has been made at Black Oak Getty,” says Patti Wagner, president and CEO of Sempra Renewables. “We are committed to constructing and operating this project in a way that respects the existing agricultural business landscape.”

In addition to its new Michigan project, Sempra Renewables owns or jointly owns wind power projects in Hawaii, Colorado, Nebraska, Kansas, Indiana and Pennsylvania .
