Sempra Energy’s California Utilities Exceed Goals for Supplier Diversity

Embracing diversity is a key part of Sempra Energy’s success. This extends to the commitment of all Sempra Energy companies to hire suppliers that reflect the customers and communities they serve, while also contributing to the local economies. Inclusivity and valuing diverse perspectives leads to better business decisions and innovative ideas throughout the company.

Sempra Energy’s California utilities, San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E) and Southern California Gas Co. (SoCalGas), have robust supplier diversity programs that advocate for opportunities for businesses owned by women, minorities, service-disabled veterans and members of the LGBT community.

SDG&E and SoCalGas recently announced that they both have exceeded the California Public Utilities Commission’s (CPUC) annual goal for contracting with diverse business enterprises.

More than 42 percent of SoCalGas’ contract spending went to diverse businesses in 2017, surpassing the CPUC’s goal of 21.5 percent, and marking the 25th consecutive year that the company has exceeded that goal.

SDG&E also maintained strong supplier diversity results, with 44.6 percent of all contract spending going to diverse business enterprises in 2017, exceeding the CPUC’s goal and marking the highest level of spending with diverse businesses in SDG&E history.

SDG&E and SoCalGas also offer innovative training programs, including supplier development and technical assistance, contractor safety workshops, seminars and other events for diverse-business enterprises.
