Sempra Energy Leads Utility Sector in ‘Management Top 250’ List
On Aug. 2, The Wall Street Journal highlighted Sempra Energy’s top ranking in the utility sector in the Journal’s first “Management Top 250” list. The article also emphasized Sempra Energy’s employee engagement and development score.
“Eleven utilities made the Management Top 250 ranking, many scoring especially well on measures tied to their employees and their social responsibility,” reported The Wall Street Journal. “On the employee measures, [Sempra Energy] scored in the top 1 percent of companies analyzed.”
The Wall Street Journal compiled the report, using a holistic methodology from the Drucker Institute, a think tank based at Claremont Graduate University’s Drucker School of Management in California that promotes the ideas and philosophy of late business and management expert, Peter Drucker.
The report is focused on five areas integral to effective management: customer satisfaction, employee engagement and development, innovation, social responsibility and financial strength.
The employee engagement category assesses items such as employee culture, satisfaction, confidence in leadership, and self-reported pay versus that of their company peers. According to the Drucker Institute, organizations that succeed in the employee engagement must also be able to contribute meaningfully to communities and societies.
