Dec. 7, the Sempra Energy companies came together to host 18 separate 'Day of Understanding' workshops to build more inclusive cultures inside and outside the workplace. The workshops are part of Sempra Energy’s pledge to support the CEO Action for Diversity & Inclusion initiative, which was formed to address bias and increase understanding in the workplace and beyond.
“At Sempra Energy we take pride in embracing an active dialogue, honest debate and constructive input,” said Joyce Rowland, senior vice president and chief culture officer for Sempra Energy. “Our ‘Day of Understanding’ workshops create an opportunity for us to continue the critical conversation about biases and discuss how we can take action to continue to strengthen our high-performing culture at Sempra Energy through inclusion.”
Sempra Energy’s workshops were hosted by members of the company-wide Local Diversity & Inclusion Councils, which are employee-led groups that help Sempra Energy foster a respectful and inclusive workplace on a grassroots, individual-to-individual level.
In addition to the Day of Understanding, which reaches workplaces throughout the U.S., the CEO Action launched the “I Act On” pledge that any individual can take to commit to tackling bias and cultivating more inclusive behaviors in their everyday lives.
