San Diego Gas & Electric’s (SDG&E) pilot program to install thousands of electric vehicle (EV) charging stations throughout the San Diego region was recently approved by the California Public Utilities Commission. The Power Your Drive program includes the installation of 3,500 EV charging stations at up to 350 business and multi-family communities.
“This program not only creates an exciting new opportunity for us to better serve our customers, it also delivers a real solution to achieving California’s ambitious climate goals,” said Jim Avery, chief development officer of SDG&E.
The utility is committed to supporting Gov. Brown’s goal to have 1.5 million zero-emission vehicles on California’s roads by 2025. This pilot program and the “Race to 500” program aim to increase employee adoption of EVs and attain that objective.
California has been a leader and advocate for renewable energy and the modernization of the transportation sector. In addition, San Diego drivers will be plugging into one of the cleanest electric grids in the country because 33 percent of SDG&E’s power portfolio is derived from renewable energy resources.
