At Sempra Energy, we understand the vital nature of energy amid the COVID-19 pandemic and are committed to safely and reliably delivering energy to millions of homes and businesses across California, Texas, Mexico and beyond. Our family of companies are embracing innovative solutions to continue operating in this unique time.
A slew of rain and high winds recently hit San Diego Gas and Electric’s (SDG&E) service area, causing a large tree to fall into power lines, leaving local residents without electricity. Unfortunately, the tree and power lines were in a floodplain and thus not accessible by foot. Thankfully, a neighbor wanting to help offered a unique solution – his canoe.
Utilizing drone technology, SDG&E flew over the area with the fallen tree in contact with the powerline, identified the precise dilemma, and directed the canoe paddler, which included tree service contractor Davey Tree. Power was swiftly restored to the area, which is home to several farms and ranches.
The way in which SDG&E and their advanced technological resources teamed up with a local organization and community members serves as a prime example as to how all Sempra companies are deeply engrained in the communities where we operate—relationships that are essential when disaster strikes.
