IEnova Included in IPC Sustainability Index for the Fifth Consecutive Year
Index Recognizes Companies for Environmental Practices, Social Responsibility and Corporate Governance Issues
IEnova announced today that it has been included in the Mexican Stock Exchange’s 2019 Price and Quotation (IPC) Sustainability Index for the fifth consecutive year. IEnova is the only energy infrastructure company included in the IPC Sustainability Index. Its score not only improved compared to last year, but also again exceeded the national average in all categories that were evaluated.
“Our development strategy is based on the firm conviction that energy infrastructure acts as a motor to accelerate the growth and social progress in our country,” said Tania Ortiz Mena, CEO of IEnova.
This recognition is due to IEnova’s focus on high standards for operation, protection and conservation of the environment, labor practices, ethics, corporate governance, and social commitment to the communities in which it operates.
IEnova’s Focus on Sustainability
Sustainability is an essential part of IEnova’s corporate strategy, and the development and operation of all of its projects are based on three pillars: economic, environmental and social.
IEnova’s operations promote regional development. The company currently has more than 1,000 employees, and in 2018, it indirectly contributed to the generation of more than 2,300 jobs through its relationship with various local providers of goods and services. In 2018, IEnova was once again recognized as a “Socially Responsible Company” and received the “Great Place to Work” certification.
IEnova is firmly committed to the communities in which it operates, and the IEnova Foundation is evidence of this commitment. The Foundation’s objective is to maximize the positive effects of the company’s activities in the communities in which it operates, with actions focused in four areas: education, environment, disadvantaged groups and community service.
Additionally, IEnova is a leader in corporate ethics. In 2018, it was recognized among the Top Ten in the Corporate Integrity Ranking by Mexican Transparency, Mexicans Against Corruption and Impunity, and the magazine Expansión. Finally, IEnova is a signatory to the United Nations Global Compact, through which it commits to complying with universal principles of human rights, labor standards, environment, and anti-corruption.
IPC Sustainability Index
The IPC Sustainability Index was created in 2011, and currently it is comprised of 30 companies listed on the Mexican Stock Exchange. These companies, in accordance with the evaluation performed by an independent third party, are recognized for their management of environmental, social responsibility, and corporate governance issues.
