Employees Volunteer at San Diego's Largest Environmental Cleanup

Hundreds of employees from Sempra Energy and San Diego Gas & Electric  (SDG&E) joined more than 7,000 volunteers on Saturday, Sept. 15, with one purpose: to collect trash littering the community before it reaches San Diego’s waterways.

The annual Coastal Cleanup Day event is the largest environmental cleanup event of the year. This year, Coastal Cleanup Day covered more than 100 beaches, parks, and other outdoor recreational spaces in San Diego County.

Collectively, San Diego volunteers picked up 130,000 pounds of trash, making the event one of the most successful days in the event’s 34-year history.

Team Sempra Energy/SDG&E was led by Kevin Sagara, SDG&E’s CEO and chairman, an avid surfer and biker who loves to fish and serves on the board of directors of the Hubbs SeaWorld Research Institute.

The Sempra Energy family of companies is committed to supporting the communities they serve by being a responsible partner by participating in events like Coastal Cleanup Day. Over the past two decades, more than 8,000 Sempra Energy and SDG&E employees have volunteered at the annual event, organized by I Love A Clean San Diego.
