Sempra Energy Donates $150,000 to the Houston Food Bank

Sempra Energy has donated $150,000 to the Houston Food Bank supporting its Food for Change program to provide much-needed relief aid to vulnerable populations within the Houston community amid recent spikes in COVID-19 cases.

“On behalf of the Houston Food Bank, we are honored to receive this very significant donation from Sempra Energy,” said Amy Ragan, Chief Development Officer. “Thanks to their generosity, we are able to provide 450,000 meals to thousands in our service area struggling to put food on the table during this unprecedented time. We are grateful for this support and look forward to growing our partnership so together we can make an even bigger impact on the needs of our community.”

This donation is the latest in a series of community investments from Sempra Energy and the Sempra Energy Foundation for local Texas communities. In March, the Sempra Energy Foundation launched a COVID-19 Nonprofit Hardship Fund, committing $500,000 to the Oncor Cares Foundation along with an additional $500,000 to small and medium-sized nonprofits working with populations directly affected by the coronavirus pandemic.

With the latest donation to the Houston Food Bank, the combined community investment between Sempra Energy and the Sempra Energy Foundation has reached nearly $1.5 million.

“Texas has been hit especially hard by the COVID-19 pandemic, and the continued support of community organizations like the Houston Food Bank is critical to the state’s recovery,” said Mike VanderMate, vice president of engineering and construction at Sempra LNG. “We’re committed to strengthening Texas communities and look forward to making a meaningful impact through relationships with community groups like the Houston Food Bank.”
