Living Our Values: Meet Nhu Tran

Nhu Tran, community relations manager for San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E), has had a passion for community and philanthropy throughout her life – continuously working to improve the lives of others. In her current role at SDG&E, she gets to fulfill her purpose and give back to the community every single day.

“I love connecting the future workforce to careers beyond their imagination,” says Tran.

Tran oversees the Inspiring Future Leaders giving initiative, collaborating with over 300 nonprofits to support the San Diego STEM Ecosystem and career pathways for students in the San Diego area, while maintaining a focus on advancing diversity, inclusion and innovation. She is passionate about advancing women in STEM through initiatives like the Big Brothers Big Sisters mentoring program at Sempra Energy, SDG&E’s #BeThatGirl initiative, and the San Diego Grantmakers STEAM funders network.

Investing in Our Communities

The Sempra Energy family of companies is committed to investing in the communities they serve. Through her work with community relations, Tran is involved in numerous volunteer activities that give employees a chance to give back to their communities, such as beach cleanups, beautification efforts and fundraising events for nonprofits.

“There are so many things I love about working here,” says Tran. “I love our culture, our growth mindset and our focus on innovation, and most of all I love how generous our employees are with their time!”

Doing the Right Thing, Championing People, Shaping the Future

“When I heard Sempra’s CEO Jeff Martin share the company’s new values and our vision of delivering energy with purpose, I was reminded of one of my favorite quotes by the poet Rumi: ‘Be a lamp, or a lifeboat, or a ladder,’” said Tran. “Doing the right thing means focusing on safety and serving as a guiding light for those around us, championing people means we bring others along by prioritizing diversity and inclusion, and to me, shaping the future is about mentorship and being that ladder for people who need it.”
