LOS ANGELES and SAN DIEGO, Oct. 10, 2006 – Debra L. Reed has assumed the role of chief executive officer of Southern California Gas Co. (SoCalGas) and San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E).
Reed’s promotion to president and chief executive officer for SoCalGas and SDG&E was one of several changes announced Sept. 20 to further strengthen the capabilities of the management team for Sempra Energy and its subsidiaries.
“I am pleased and honored to be taking the helm of these two strong utility franchises with such a long, distinguished history of customer service and community involvement,” said Reed. “I plan to preserve their legacy of excellence and continue it into the future.”
Reed, 50, joined SoCalGas in 1978 as an energy systems engineer and, in 1988, became the first female officer appointed at the company.
From 1984 to 1994, Reed held leadership positions with SoCalGas, including vice president of human resources and vice president of administrative services. From 1995 to 2000, she served as senior vice president of SoCalGas. Reed also served as president of Energy Distribution Services at SoCalGas, overseeing the company’s operations for residential, small-commercial and industrial customers before becoming president of SDG&E in July 2000.
In January 2002, Reed was named president of SoCalGas and chief financial officer of both SoCalGas and SDG&E. In May 2004, she became president and chief operating officer of both companies. Reed assumed her new chief executive role last week.
