Sempra Energy’s Focus on Giving

In June, Sempra Energy released its latest Corporate Responsibility Report. The report  provides a snapshot of Sempra Energy’s sustainability priorities and performance, including our support of non-profit organizations.

As a company, we focus our community giving on causes and organizations that are aligned with our business priorities.

Environment

We concentrate on the environment because we recognize that our business operations have an impact. For example, in 2016 nearly 100 SDG&E volunteers worked with the community to repair and renovate nine homes during the annual City Heights Facelift. The team painted fences, cleaned parkways and planted drought-resistant succulents and trees, helping to improve the neighborhood.

Community Development and Education

Sempra Energy also contributes to community development and education because strong economies support a higher quality of life for our customers. From the SoCalGas employees who helped design and teach several team science workshops, to Sempra Energy business IEnova’s foundation donations of school supplies, toys and clothing to foster homes in Mexicali, Ensenada, Hermosillo, Chihuahua, Torreón, Monterrey and Mexico City, the Sempra organizations work to support the development of tomorrow’s workforce.

Emergency Preparedness and Disaster Relief

The company also works to make sure our communities are ready to respond to unforeseen events. In 2016, the Sempra Energy Foundation and employees gave $140,000 to relief agencies in the wake of three natural disasters: the floods in Louisiana, the earthquake in Ecuador and Hurricane Matthew in the Southeastern U.S. These efforts continue in 2017 as the Sempra Energy Foundation has announced contributions in response to Hurricanes Harvey, Irma and Maria.

Supporting the communities we serve is an important part of our culture at Sempra Energy. Read more about how our organization and employees support the communities where we operate in the 2016 Corporate Responsibility Report.
