Paul H. Yong
Paul H. Yong is vice president of corporate tax and chief tax counsel for Sempra Energy, a San Diego-based Fortune 500 energy services holding company whose subsidiaries provide electricity, natural gas and value-added products and services. The Sempra Energy companies' more than 16,000 employees serve approximately 32 million consumers worldwide.
Before joining Sempra Energy’s tax department in 2004, Yong was a principal with Quantum Tax Consultants, a tax partner with Arthur Andersen and vice president of tax with Unocal Corporation.
Before that, Yong was a structural engineer with the U.S. Department of Defense.
Yong serves on the board of directors of the San Diego affiliate of Habitat for Humanity and on the board of trustees of the University of California Hastings Foundation. Additionally, he is chair of the Tax Council for Manufacturers Alliance for Productivity and Innovation and serves as treasurer of the Sempra Foundation. Yong is co-author of "Corporate Income Tax Accounting," a desktop treatise published by Thomson Reuters. He is also an adjunct professor at the University of San Diego School of Law.
Yong holds a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Hawaii, a master’s degree in tax law from New York University and a Juris Doctor degree from Hastings College of Law. He also completed the executive program at Oxford University.
