Efficient power plants
include environmental measures
When Sempra Generation builds power plants, it uses advanced technology and emissions controls. It doesn't just meet environmental
standards; in many cases, it does more.
That's because Sempra Energy has had a long-term, strong commitment to the environment. As part of that commitment, Sempra energy joins customers, civic leaders and other community leaders in providing sound and responsible stewardship of our environment by meeting all the applicable federal and state environmental laws, regulations and permit requirements.
Model power plants
Here are details on three power plants that are models for energy efficiency, air-emmissions controls and environmental protection:
Utility system upgrades
Sempra Energy's utility companies upgrade equipment to surpass environmental requirements.
Southern California Gas Co., for instance, made changes at a natural gas compressor station in Blythe, Calif., that reduced emissions of nitrogen oxide, a part of smog, by about 471 tons per year. (A compressor station acts like a giant engine, providing the pressure to move natural gas long distances through pipelines.)
Two new, cleaner and more energy-efficient units replaced seven older compressor engines. This project was completely voluntary.
