Steven J. Prince is chairman of Sempra Commodities, a leading participant in marketing and trading physical and financial commodity products, including natural gas, power, petroleum products and base metals. Sempra Commodities combines trading and risk-management experience with physical-commodity expertise to provide innovative solutions for its customers worldwide. The company acts as a vital link in the marketplace between some of the world's top energy producers and end users.


Sempra Commodities is a subsidiary of Sempra Global, the umbrella for Sempra Energy's businesses operating in competitive energy markets. Sempra Energy is a San Diego-based, Fortune 500, energy services holding company whose subsidiaries provide electricity, natural gas, and value-added products and services. The Sempra Energy companies' 13,500 employees serve more than 29 million consumers worldwide.


As chairman and chief executive officer, Prince directs all aspects of Sempra Commodities' business. During his tenure, the company has attained prominence as one of the top energy marketers worldwide.


Prior to this job, Prince served as chairman and chief executive officer of Sempra Commodities' predecessor company, AIG Trading Corp., from 1995 to 1997. From 1990 to 1994, he had a number of managerial jobs in finance, computer-systems development, support operations and commodity risk management at AIG Trading Corp.


From 1983 to 1990, Prince worked at Drexel Burnham Lambert Trading Corp. in New York, trading and managing risk in precious metals, and developing and managing the interest-rate derivatives trading operation.


Prince started his career in banking in 1973 and began his commodity career at J. Aron & Co. in 1981, where he traded precious metals and interest-rate instruments.


Prince has a bachelor's degree in economics from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.
