Creating awareness: Because everybody counts

This past summer, people who live in Southern California saw a unique series
of ads in area publications, and heard them on the radio. Though
sponsored by Sempra Energy,
each of the first three ads (more ads are planned as
part of the series) focused on a charitable group and one of the
people who adds to its success:
- A woman who lost a leg, but found The Challenge Center, a group that helps people recover from severe injuries;
- A local teacher who volunteers at Mama's Kitchen, helping
to feed the children of parents who are sick with HIV and AIDS;

Cleanup project helps first-graders go "wild"

"It
was a day they'll always remember." That's what teacher Karen
Williams says about the day this past March when more than
200 first-graders got to go to the Wild Animal Park because
of Sempra Energy. They're just a few of the many who have
benefited from Sempra Energy's Volunteer Incentive Program
(VIP).
The way the VIP works is that an employee volunteers with a certified nonprofit group for a total of eight hours and, in return, Sempra Energy contributes $100 to that group. Although $100 is nice, if that same employee gets 20 of his nearest and dearest co-workers together on the same project...

Hurricane relief
To help those who have lost so much due to Hurricane Katrina, Sempra Energy and its employees pledge up to $600,000. Also, the company offers electrical recovery help and earth-moving equipment.
