Helping out
But, there are many schools in areas that aren’t so well off, where there
are no funds for special events and where parents don’t have the means
to buy special treats for their children.
Sempra Energy’s companies in Mexico* decided they
could help fill that gap:
- In Ensenada and Mexicali, a magician treated elementary
school children to a magic act and the kids received Barbie
dolls, Hot Wheels cars or soccer balls;
- In Chihuahua, four schools received new sports equipment
and three orphanages received toys for each child; and
- In Torreón, the company sponsored a new outdoor
play area, including a playground, basketball court and
soccer field at one of the schools.
More than 3,000 kids
"We're happy we could help make a difference on this special day
in the communities we serve south of the border," explains Beatriz Palomino-Young,
Sempra Energy's community relations manager for Mexico.
Working with local schools and groups, Sempra Energy's
companies helped make the Day of the Child a treat for more
than 3,000 kids at a half-dozen schools, shelters and community
centers.
