Sharing Works
(con't)
Through 35 support groups, the association
helps people with memory loss and their caregivers share the emotional
and physical challenges they face with others who are coping
with the same issues.
Great need
“Last year, we served 25,000 families, our largest number ever,” explains
Merle Brodie, president and CEO, “and we thank San Diego Gas & Electric
and Sempra Energy, whose support has helped fund the expansion of our outreach.” But,
she points out, despite the growth, the need is even greater. “We know
there may be as many as 360,000 people in the region who can benefit from our
services when you count affected individuals, their caregivers and families.”
Maintain your brain
Besides helping those who
have the disease, the local chapter is trying to help people reduce
their own risk of dementia. Its “Maintain
Your Brain” program outlines ways to stay mentally and
physically active, and socially involved and healthy, all of which promote
brain health.
