Alzheimer's Association: Twenty-five
years of caring and helping people cope
Merle Brodie READY TO HELP: Merle Brodie, president and CEO of the San Diego/Imperial Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association, says, "Last year, we served 25,000 families, but we know there may be as many as 360,000 people in the region who can benefit from our services."

Volunteering
Special Olympics is more than special
to SoCalGas manager, other employees
Kyle Petersilia SPECIAL TIMES: Taking part in the Special Olympics means a lot to Kyle Petersilia (left). He and his brother (not shown) have fragile X syndrome. They're the sons of Southern California Gas Co.'s Pat Petersilia, who has volunteered at the Special Olympics for years.

Begun in the 1960s, the Special Olympics provides sports training and athletic competition for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. Its goal is to give them "continuing opportunities...
