Sharing Works
Holiday giving, Sempra Energy style
At Sempra Energy, we strive to be a good corporate citizen in the communities
where we live and work. We believe that giving back is not only good business,
it's also the right thing to do, no matter what time of year.
- In Sabine Pass, Texas, and Hackberry, La., nearly 1,200 people
attended holiday festivals hosted by Sempra LNG, which develops
and builds liquefied natural gas receipt terminals. Local area
high school students helped plan the festivals, which included
free photos with Santa Claus, cookie decorating, ornament making,
writing letters to Santa and Christmas tree lightings. Sempra
LNG also made a donation to the Greater Port Arthur Chamber of
Commerce’s “Port Arthur for Positive Action” program
to help get the last of two dozen area families displaced by
Hurricane Rita back into their homes.
- In Baja California, Mexico, Santa Claus made a special visit
to the General Hospital of Ensenada to spread a little holiday
cheer. Sempra LNG employees and their families joined Santa at
the hospital’s pediatric unit to decorate, deliver presents
and play games with the young patients, most of whom spent Christmas
in the hospital. Sempra LNG also made a contribution to support
the hospital’s effort to expand its pediatric unit to meet
the needs of the children it serves.
- Thousands of underprivileged Californians enjoyed warm, nourishing
meals this holiday season, thanks to Sempra Energy’s Holiday
Food Drive, a company tradition for more than 20 years. From
Compton to Aliso Viejo to Pico Rivera to San Diego, employees
across the Sempra Energy companies donated hundreds of bags of
food, thousands of dollars and gift certificates, and volunteered
their time to unload barrels of food and pack boxes for distribution.
- Employees from Sempra Energy’s California utilities,
Southern California Gas Co. and San Diego Gas & Electric,
delivered $50,000 to more than 50 nonprofit groups across the
state as part of the yearly Season of Giving program. For the
second year in a row, employees were asked to nominate a nonprofit
group to which they donated their time and effort, resulting
in many groups across the utilities’ service territories
receiving contributions and volunteers to help serve the community.
- Energy for Others (EFO), Sempra Energy’s employee giving
program, also helped spread holiday cheer this season. The Los
Angeles chapter adopted Shoes that Fit as its charity and donated
shoes and clothing to underserved children in Los Angeles County.
EFO’s San Diego-Imperial Valley chapter supported a range
of groups, providing food and toys to underprivileged children
and families, organizing a holiday party for homeless and impoverished
children in San Diego County and supporting a year-round collection
program for low-income, disadvantaged and military families.
