Sharing Works
While it only takes 32 people to run Sempra Generation's Mesquite Power generating station near Phoenix,
Ariz., they're more than just employees. They are also proud members
of the community where they live and work—and they believe in giving
back.
That's why they've volunteered to take part in this year's Tres Rios Nature & Earth Festival by investing their resources, talents and time.
Title sponsor
Mesquite Power is the title sponsor of this yearly event, set for March
11-12, which focuses on the rich diversity of wildlife, habitat,
history and culture of three rivers: the Gila, Salt and Agua Fria.
Educational programs and tours will include canoe trips looking
for wildlife and birds, fishing clinics, hikes to petroglyphs, and
story telling and crafts for children.
"This is the perfect type of program for us to be involved with," explains
Kelly Prasser, community relations manager for Sempra Global's companies.
"We target our community outreach toward education, the environment,
economic development and employee involvement, and the Tres Rios
Festival sponsorship allows us to support and assist those efforts
we think are important for the future.
Helping teachers, too
"The festival sponsorship is an outgrowth and expansion of the earlier work that we have done with the Wildlife for Tomorrow Foundation, which is the organizer of the event," says Prasser. "Working with them, we've provided educational and outreach materials for the classroom."
Mesquite Power, for instance, formed a Math & Science Alliance with local schools, providing $2,000 mini-grants to area teachers. Through the program, teachers get funds they can use for lab equipment, books, field trips, guest speakers and more.
Pleased to help
"As a good corporate citizen, we've continued to take part in community clean-up and recycling programs throughout Maricopa County," Prasser says. "The Tres Rios Nature & Earth Festival encompasses this and more, and we're pleased that we can help make this one-of-a-kind event a reality."
