Setting the example
Sempra Energy's commitment to protecting and enhancing the environment goes beyond supporting other groups and programs: We live it every day!
- Working with a local nursery, Sempra Energy’s Mesquite Power in Arizona sponsored a revegetation program on its property that provided for the care and replanting of more than 250 mesquite trees and 25,000 cacti.
- Sempra Energy’s El Dorado Energy worked as a partner with local agencies in Nevada to plant more than 15,000 trees in the area. El Dorado Energy also features a 100-kilowatt solar field that uses photovoltaic technology, making it a site for future solar research-and-development projects.
- At Sempra Energy's Termoeléctrica
de Mexicali (TDM) power plant,
a $20-million sewage-treatment site
allows the plant to clean sewage
water from Mexicali and use it in the
plant’s cooling process. This
water-treatment site helps free up
capacity at the nearby Mexicali sewage-treatment
plant and helps the Mexican government
meet its obligations for the concentration
of biological contaminants in the New
River.
Global Green USA
Sempra Energy is proud to support Global Green
USA, a national environmental group that
creates “green cities,” getting
rid of threats to the environment and providing
clean, safe drinking water for people who
lack access to that water. Founded
by Mikhail Gorbachev, Global Green USA combines
research, community-based projects and advocacy
to promote education and environmental programs.
Elmsett School Community Recycling
Centre
Sempra
Commodities proudly supports the
children of Elmsett School in their recycling
efforts to raise money and help conserve
the Earth’s natural resources. Sempra
Commodities sends its old toner cartridges
to the school's community recycling center,
which has helped to raise funds for the
children to learn about caring for the
environment through a range of projects.
