Promoting math, science and engineering
Sempra Energy proudly supports programs that
foster success in math, science and technology.
- Sempra Energy’s global companies have worked as partners with local schools in California, Arizona, Nevada, Texas and Louisiana to launch the Math & Science Alliance. This program provides support to teachers to enhance curriculum, generate excitement about math and science, and provide hands-on learning through field trips, needed equipment, guest speakers and more.
- In partnership with CETYS University in Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico, Sempra Energy supports the College of Engineering in a unique student training-and-development program. High school seniors take college engineering courses, take part in labs and develop their own science projects to display at an engineering expo.
- San
Diego Gas & Electric and Southern
California Gas Co. proudly support
the Mathematics Engineering Science Achievement
(MESA) engineering program and science
fairs throughout the their service territories.
The MESA Engineering Program (MEP) is an
academic program that supports disadvantaged
and underrepresented students to attain
four-year degrees in engineering or computer
science. With the support of education
and industry partners, including Sempra
Energy, MESA can produce urgently needed
math, engineering, science and technology
professionals.
Parent Institute for Quality Education
Over the past 12 years, San Diego Gas & Electric, a Sempra Energy utility, has contributed to the Parent Institute for Quality Education (PIQE) in San Diego. This has had a direct effect on the education and graduation of more than 50,000 ethnically diverse students. A program with proven results, the PIQE model has had a huge impact on the academic success of children, chiefly among Latino and African-American students.
