AjA Project
With funding from Sempra Energy, the AjA Project launched a participatory photography program in San Diego in which recently resettled refugee teenagers use photography to explore and reflect upon the stories of their lives, families and communities. Public exhibitions of their work create chances for cross-cultural educational exchanges, and provide a forum for community-wide talks about the immigrant experience and racial justice in America.
New Americans Immigration Museum
and Learning Center Student Essay Competition
Sempra Energy offers support to the New
Americans Immigration Museum and Learning
Center and its yearly Family Histories
Essay Competition. The program provides
a chance for students in grades 6 to 12
to collect and preserve their family histories
and develop pride as the youngest generation
of immigrants. The program works with San
Diego City Schools and the Community College
District to align with classroom standards
and goals. The museum honors the diverse
students of San Diego, and all winning stories
are kept for future museum exhibits and
publications.
Los Angeles Philharmonic’s
Upbeat Live
Sempra Energy is proud to support UpBeat
Live, the Los Angeles Philharmonic’s
preconcert educational lecture series at
the Walt Disney Concert Hall. Talks by
renowned musicologists, interviews with
guest artists and guest performances create
an informative and engaging way to learn
about music. We believe creative programs
such as UpBeat Live add greatly to the
artistic, cultural and educational betterment
of our community.
