Kevin C. Sagara is vice president and associate general counsel of Sempra
Energy, a San Diego-based Fortune 500 energy services holding company
whose subsidiaries provide electricity, natural gas and value-added products
and services. The Sempra Energy companies' 13,500 employees serve more
than 29 million consumers worldwide.
In his current job, Sagara has managerial responsibility for the corporate,
commercial and environmental law groups of Sempra Energy. Sagara also
serves as general counsel of Sempra Global.
Prior to joining Sempra Energy in 2003, Sagara was vice president and
general counsel for WIDCOMM Inc., a privately held, wireless software
provider. In that job, Sagara was responsible for all legal affairs, including
major mergers and acquisitions, and corporate and intellectual-property
matters.
Before he worked at WIDCOMM, Sagara was with INTERVU, a provider of Internet
audio- and video-delivery services. Sagara served as vice president of
Mergers and Acquisitions, and as general counsel. There, he oversaw a
number of strategic transactions with partners like CNN and Microsoft,
up to and including the sale of the company to Akamai Technologies for
more than $2.8 billion.
Before that, Sagara was assistant general counsel at Enova Corp.,
the corporate parent of San Diego Gas & Electric. He served in
that job from 1992 until 1998, when he became chief corporate counsel
at the newly formed Sempra Energy. In that role, he managed major acquisitions,
divestitures and joint ventures for the company.
Sagara began his career in 1987 at Gray Cary Ames & Frye, the largest
San Diego law firm.
Sagara is a graduate of Hastings College of the Law. He received his
undergraduate degree in geography-ecosystems from the University of California,
Los Angeles.
