Joseph A. Householder
Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer
Joseph A. Householder is executive vice president and chief financial officer for Sempra Energy, a San Diego-based Fortune 500 energy services holding company whose subsidiaries provide electricity, natural gas and value-added products and services. The Sempra Energy companies' 17,000 employees serve more than 32 million consumers worldwide.
Formerly, Householder was senior vice president, controller and chief accounting officer where he was responsible for financial reporting, accounting and controls, and tax functions for all of Sempra Energy's companies.
Before that, he served as vice president of Corporate Tax and chief tax counsel for Sempra Energy where he oversaw Sempra Energy's worldwide tax affairs.
Prior to joining Sempra Energy in 2001, Householder was a partner at PricewaterhouseCoopers in the firm's national tax office.
Previously, he was vice president of Corporate Development and assistant chief financial officer of Unocal until 1999. There, Householder was responsible for worldwide tax planning, financial reporting and forecasting, and risk-management compliance.
Earlier in his career, Householder served as an attorney and a certified public accountant at firms in the Los Angeles area. Householder holds a bachelor's degree in business administration from the University of Southern California and a law degree from Loyola Law School. Additionally, he has completed the executive program at UCLA Anderson School.
Householder serves on the boards of directors of Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) and the San Diego Regional Economic Development Corporation. Additionally, Householder is a member of the Tax Executives Institute, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the California Bar and the American Bar Association.
